Cornhole Bean Bag Toss Game

Cornhole is a very popular game at tailgates. Cornhole is played with two wooden boards and bean bags. You should be able to find a cornhole game with your favorite college football team or NFL logos. You can always make your own game and paint with the team colors.

Cornhole Bean Bag Toss Game

Cornhole Tailgate Toss Rules

Score exactly 21 points before your opponent

Setup:

  • Targets should be set approximately 25 feet apart (from front of targets)
  • Players can take stance anywhere between the front and back of target, no more than 5 feet away from the side of the target
  • A coin flip decides the team who takes the lead toss in Round 1

Official Scoring:

  • Games are played to 21 points
  • Bags tossed or knocked into the target hole are worth 3pts
  • Bags that land (and remain) on the target board are worth 1 pt
  • Bags that hit the ground before landing on the board or going in the hole can be scored up to your tailgate rules
  • Bags that land (or end up) on the ground are worth 0 pts
  • Bags that come back out of the hole are scored where they land
  • Score is the difference in the team totals. For example: After 1 round or 8 bags played; #1 Team with 1 bag in the hole = 3 points. #2 Team with 2 bags on board = 2 points. Score 1st round for #1 team = 1 point.
  • Alternate rule 11-0 is an automatic “shutout” win
  • Teams must hit 21 points exactly to win the game. If a team exceeds 21 in a round, their score will be equal to their score at the beginning of the round minus the number of points over 21. (Example: A team begins a round with 19. They end the round with three additional points, giving them a total score of 22. Since they exceeded 21 by one point, their new score is their score at the beginning of the round, 19, minus the amount by which they exceeded 21, 1 point. Their new score is 18.)

Rules:

  • If playing doubles, team members stand at opposite targets and remain there for the entire game.
  • If playing singles, players will rotate between targets.
  • The team with the highest score in the previous round throws the lead toss for the round.
  • Both teams alternate tosses until all eight bags have been tossed. (This concludes a round.)
  • Player’s feet should not project past the front of the target during a toss.
